MARGAO: A delegation of Scheduled Tribe (ST) leaders met Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai on Saturday at his Goa Forward Party (GFP) office and appealed to him to raise their demand for political reservation in the State Assembly and Lok Sabha in the ongoing Monsoon Assembly session. The GFP president assured to do so and pointed out that the tribes of Goa are being ignored by the BJP government.

Under the banner of ‘Mission Political Reservation for Scheduled Tribes’, ST leaders like Joseph Vaz, Adv John Fernandes and Rama Kankonkar submitted documents to Sardesai detailing how they had been denied justice for the last two decades.

Fernandes pointed out that they have demanded such political reservation since the notification included the Gawda, Kunbi and Velip communities in the list of Scheduled Tribes.

He added that the Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar, being a ST leader, should support their demand and allow the discussions to take place in the Assembly.
