MARGAO: The Goa Commission for Scheduled Castes (ST) and Scheduled Tribes (ST) will be celebrating ‘The International Day of the World’s Indigenous People’, also known as World Tribal Day on August 9 and 10, at Ravindra Bhavan, here.
This is being organised in association with the All India Adiwasi Employees Association who will be having their national convention on the same days and at the same venue.
This two-day programme is set to witness the participation of delegates from 14 States across the country. The aim of this gathering is to raise awareness regarding crucial matters concerning indigenous communities, including land disputes, employment schemes, and other pertinent issues affecting the tribals.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant will be the chief guest for the function in the presence of various other ministers, MLAs as well as the Chairman and CEO of the Commission and the Chairman of Goa State SC and OBC Finance and Development Corporation (GSCFD). For the valedictory function, Maharashtra Cabinet Minister Dharmarao Baba Atram will be the chief guest along with other leaders from the Maharashtra government.
The following adiwasi officials from Goa will be awarded at the function, namely Gurudas Gawade (Superintendent of Police, GPS); Vishram Borkar (Superintendent of Police, GPS); Madhukar Kukaliekar (Rtd Joint Director Account; Ranjana Borkar (Jt Director, Dept of Metrology, Govt of Goa); Ankush Gaunkar (Exe. Engineer WRD Dept) and Prabhakar Dhage (journalist).
In addition, five prominent personalities will be felicitated at the function, namely Ramnath Gawade Gaonkar (Literature); Gajanan Raikar (Social Work); Joycee Dias (Politics); Pushpa Arlekar Redkar (Social Work) and Bhalachandra Ujgaokar (Art and Culture)
