PANJIM: The Archdiocese of Goa and Daman celebrated the canonisation of St Teresa of Calcutta on September 13 at the See Cathedral, Old Goa. Representatives from all the parishes took part in the celebration.
The Missionaries of Charity, along with a few chosen inmates from their various houses, led the procession into the church, carrying a picture of Mother Teresa. The main celebrant was Archbishop Filipe Neri Ferrao.
In his homily the Archbishop reminded that “God’s call, through prophet Isaiah, to ‘feed the hungry and quench the thirsty’ was put into practice by Mother Teresa.” Stating that “God is Love,” he said, “Mother Teresa showed this love and in a way showed God. She did this as a child and later as a young girl, when she chose to come to India.”
Soon after the Mass, a video on the life of Mother Teresa was screened.
This was followed by sharing of experiences by people, who were touched by Mother Teresa. Sara de Melo, one of the inmates of a home for the destitute, sang a song in honour of the Saint. A brief skit presented by the Santa Monica Sisters depicted how the joy of the canonisation echoed in heaven and on earth.
Later, the Archbishop launched a new diocesan website, accessible at www.goadcscm.com. Fr Olavo Caiado, the Director of the Diocesan Centre for Social Communications, explained that, although this is the second Diocesan website hosted by the Centre, the present site will have many more special features and will also be on the Mobile Web.
