Tribal leaders began their Awareness Campaign against the present state and central Govt for Denying Constitutional rights and Political Reservations for Scheduled Tribes in the Assembly on Sunday, 17th March. The leaders began their first step of the campaign at Kajugotto from Sanguem Constituency.
This move comes after a decision taken by the ST leaders at Azad Maidan on 10th March, wherein the leaders will approach every village in Goa and have an awareness meeting in the Maand with the villagers. The Association of Scheduled Tribes (ST) under the banner of Mission Political Reservation for STs in Goa have rejected the Union cabinet’s decision to approve the ST reservation bill in the state assembly, saying “the move didn’t satisfy their demands.”
“The government has lied to us. We have been demanding a similar notification for Goa. Now this is just an attempt to keep us waiting. So we have decided that we will go to every village in Goa and talk directly to the villagers. The meeting will be held at Maand, the traditional way of discussion. As we announced on 10th March, we will continue this awareness drive till we don’t reach our goal,” empahised Rupesh Velip, ST leader.
