It is said that traffic snarls increase when the Margao schools close for the day. To tide over the congestion after school hours, the authorities had, a couple of years ago, mooted a proposal for staggered school timings.
A meeting of the town school managements was held to implement staggered timings, but the ground reality remains unchanged.
Traffic officials said a 15-minute gap in the school closure timings will go a long way in decongesting the town. “For want of manpower, we are hard pressed to deploy traffic personnel near the schools, besides the railway crossing at Comba – the hub of educational institutions. Staggered timings would have given some respite to the traffic situation,” the official remarked.
The proposal to relocate some of the schools to the city outskirts has also failed to take off till date.
