Stakeholders and environmentalists reveal ‘real reason’ why lands are being taken from Loutolim farmers

Xavier Fernandes – Panchayat has written a letter to the Government seeking a report on the stability of the Borim Bridge. We have no reply yet. To save the lands of the people we demand that the huge bridge plan be dropped and a minimum two-lane bridge be built. Not a single person knew about the notification to have the bridge. The Government has kept the Loutolim villagers and village panchayat in the dark- Former Sarpanch Loutolim

Abhijit Prabhudesai – Unfortunately we are on the path of irreversibly making Goa a coal hub. The coal plans are shown in the Sagarmala report that they want to take 137 million tonnes of coal from Goa through which they want to destroy the khazans and eco-sensitive lands of Goa along with completely destroying Vasco. The Government is just calling the tail to the elephant a rope for their convenience-  Co-Convenor, Goyant Kollso Naka

There are no reports of studies done on the status of the existing Borim Bridge. Using that excuse the Coal Infrastructure Highway for which land is being acquired is being portrayed as the highway for the people.

Xencor Polgi – The government has never considered the people. The Goa Government is being controlled by the coal lobby from the centre. There is coal in Mormugao port. It is not built for coal. All the hazardous cargo is being handled in Mormugao which has made the port a ticking time-bomb. They have sped up the process and the opposition that could have spoken has no word as the entire Government of Goa is in the hands of the coal lobby- Anti-Coal activist, Mormugao

Zarina D’Cunha – Is the Government bothered by the stakeholders?

We have shown all the lacunas in the matter in the successive public hearings. The Government has become an office boy of corporates. The public debt has reached thousands and who is going to face the brunt- Social Activist, former member, Village Groups of Goa
