PANJIM: The State government will soon release a draft Start-up policy that will focus on preventing brain drain.
The government is currently holding a series of sessions with professionals and students on the policy. IT Minister Rohan Khaunte said a policy defining all requirements for this sector will be spelt out in the next fortnight.
“Our priority is to retain our people in Goa, preventing brain drain and ensuring to reverse the flow of brain drain. IT business will be looked at very seriously and CM is monitoring it. In the next 10-15 days, we will be able to spell out (details of the draft policy) because at present, sessions to understand the industry requirement are underway. This was perhaps not done earlier,” he told Herald.
The minister emphasised that the government is making efforts to lift the State in terms of IT business. “We are holding sessions to understand their difficulties and seek suggestions to carry out everything required for this sector. Chief Minister (Manohar Parrikar) is very clear that IT industry has to be industry for Goa. I believe it is better late than never, we have to start somewhere and we have started,” he said adding that students pursuing studies in IT, the who have completed their studies and those working in the field, will be first priority.
To track them down and assist the government for a Start-up policy, the Goa IT Professionals group and related agencies have also been roped-in. “When we talk of start-ups we need to know the grassroots realities, what is their basic problem, etc. We have been talking of policies and these policies should be made good enough for people to use. We are trying to find out what is the gap and work towards bridging the gap,” he said adding, “Those passing out as graduates, and others related to this are being taken into consideration to know what their expectations are from the government as far as IT is concerned. The message should reach out to all that we mean business.”
The government is also making attempts to gain the confidence of those already having their setup in the State. Khaunte refused to divulge details of the discussions with the stakeholders.
