State awaiting Apex Court orders to unlock land in SEZs

Will take action against illegal allotment of plots; Govt in process of acquiring land in six constituencies in State

The State government is awaiting the order of the Supreme Court to initiate steps to unlock the 38 lakh sq mtrs of land locked in Special Economic Zone (SEZ) and also to take action against those involved in illegal allotment of SEZ plots, Industries Minister Mahadev Naik told the State legislative Assembly on Thursday.
He said that the Bombay High Court at Goa has passed a judgment terming the SEZ allotments as illegal. “We are awaiting the Supreme Court final order to take action against those involved in illegal plot allotment under SEZ. Following the order, steps would be taken to unlock the land locked in SEZ,” he said.
Naik was responding to the question tabled by Dabolim MLA Mauvin Godinho who sought to know the present status of the SEZ matter.
Approximately 38,40,886 sq mtrs of land was allotted for setting up of SEZs in Goa by Goa Industrial Development corporation (GIDC). The BJP-government has already announced not to have SEZ concept in Goa but instead utilize the land for industrial development.
The Minister informed the House that the government is in the process of acquiring 19.31lakh sq mtrs of land in a total of six constituencies for industrial purposes. The fresh acquisition would be done in the constituencies of Shiroda, Bicholim, St Andre, Tivim, Pernem and Nuvem.
Apart from this, there are as many as 143 vacant plots admeasuring a total of 15.51 lakh sq mtrs of land in various industrial estates, which would be advertised and leased out. There are a total of 58 plots vacant in new industrial estate at Panchwadi, while 29 plots are vacant in Sanguem.
