PANJIM: “The Goa BJP will fully support Narendra Modi as Prime ministerial candidate,” said spokesperson of the BJP, Goa unit, Dr Wilfred Mesquita today.
Speaking to Herald after the national conclave of the Party concluded in Delhi, Mesquita said that the trend appears positive in projecting Modi as the PM during the Parliament polls to be held in 2014 and the Goa unit of the BJP are in tandem with the wave that favours the Gujarat CM as the BJP’s prime ministerial candidate.
“While there is nothing officially declared at the moment from the Centre, the party supporters in Goa are waiting for the announcement,” he said stating that there is no other choice before the people of the country in any other political party.
Mesquita said that the Congress Party’s history of corruption is well exposed and while people of Goa brought the BJP to power that people in the country will bring the BJP to power at the centre.
He also expressed confidence that in Goa, people will extend their support to the BJP in the Lok Sabha elections and the party will succeed in capturing both seats.
Asked whether the scars of the Godhra riots will haunt the BJP’s prospects if Modi is projected as prime ministerial candidate especially within the minority communities, Mesquita said, “No court or commission has found Modi quilty of being involved in the Godhra riots nor has he been even castigated in any of the cases,” Mesquita said adding further that it is the activists who are playing judge in the matter.
Mesquita said that like the rest of the country, the Goa unit of the BJP is on an upbeat mood and readying for the LS polls.
“If the elections are on schedule we have just 399 days left for the elections,” pointed out Mesquita.
The BJP spokesperson also said that chief minister Manohar Parrikar spoke at the conclave and moved a resolution in the context of mining citing harassment by the central government to non-Congress ruled States.
