State confident of NCZMA decision on port limits deletion to come in its favour

PANJIM: The State government is confident that the National Coastal Zone Management Authority (NCZMA) will decide in their favour on request to delete the port limits from the Coastal Zone Management Plan (CZMP).

Admitting that during the meeting held on Tuesday, the NCZMA declined State’s plea for deletion of port limits from the final CZMP, no final decision was taken and the same would be known once the minutes of the meeting are out.

Official said that we will have to wait for decision which will be released in the minutes of the meeting.

Despite the recommendation from the Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA) – the decision taken during its meeting held in March, the Chennai-based National Centre for Sustainable Coastal Management (NCSCM) continued to show port limits on the draft CZMP 2011.

Several apprehensions were raised by the people that the Port Authority proposed to be constituted under Major Port Authorities Bill may acquire their land shown within port limits under the draft CZMP. Some local bodies have also expressed apprehensions regarding dilution or overlapping of their jurisdictions.
