PANJIM: Goa’s COVID-19 death count breached 400-mark on Sunday as ten more patients succumbed to the deadly infection. Since June 22, when the first death was reported, a total 401 people have lost their lives to coronavirus due to co-morbid conditions.
September reported half of the State’s total coronavirus mortalities- 205- on an average 7.5 deaths in a day; while 150 patients died in August. The deaths in the current month include that of a 12-year-old boy.
The first ten days of the month had reported 73 deaths. The month had also recorded the highest single-day death count of 14.
On Sunday, ten people lost their lives; all with co-morbid conditions.
The deceased include 69-year-old female from Dona Paula, 73-year-old woman from Bicholim, 63-year-old male from Siridao, 73-year-old man from Navelim-Salcete, 65-year-old female from Boma-Ponda, 61-year-old male from Tonca-Panjim, 65-year-old woman from Mandrem, 89-year-old man from Agadi-Fatorda, 78-year-old male from Margao and 53-year-old man from Vasco.
On the other hand, the recovery rate continued to witness a sharp rise and stood at 82.79 per cent on Sunday as 701 patients were declared cured.
The day also saw 384 new patients getting infected.
As on date, 31,958 people have tested positive for the infection of which 26,460 have already recovered. The active cases tally stands at 5,097.
So far, 14,591 people have opted for home isolation.
