State Directorate of Education to review school syllabus

CM directs officials of DoE and State Council for Educational Research and Training to review the syllabus based on a national framework to be provided by the Union Education Ministry

PANJIM: As the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 seeks overhaul of the curriculum with focus on local context in the syllabus, the State Directorate of Education (DoE) is looking forward to review the school syllabus. 

Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant, who is also Minister for Education, during his recent meeting with the officials of DoE and State Council for Educational Research and Training (SCERT), has directed them to review the syllabus based on a national framework to be provided by the Union Education Ministry.

DoE in its vision document too has laid focus “the curriculum framework for school education and curriculum for elementary teachers education will have to be revised and prepared in every five to ten years”. 

A senior official said that with State gearing up for implementation of NEP for school education, the syllabus will have to be reviewed accordingly. Official said that under NEP, education system will be undergoing lot of changes and accordingly State will be provided with broad framework to work with. 

“With rolling out of NEP 2020, the long term goal is configuring the perspective and overall vision for integrated education. However, the demand and mandate of the NEP 2020 poses great challenges for department to deliver. We have to gear up to meet the challenges,” official said. 

The official said that as NEP speaks about syllabus with State specific content, the government is looking at this as an opportunity to include state-related content wherever required. 

The Chief Minister has been repeatedly saying that government is on mission to bring overall change in the education sector with focus on to encouraging State specific and career oriented curriculum. 

Recently, the SCERT had formed committees to review the school syllabus based on NEP framework. Accordingly, the syllabus were made ready for foundation stage courses- that includes three years of pre-primary school,  Class I and II and training was also held for the teachers.
