State drops PPP model, to bear cost of Margao bus stand construction

CM says Rs 70 crore will be spent in the first phase; State plans to spend around Rs 210 cr for constructing a new bus stand at Mapusa & around Rs 100 cr on upgradation plan for the existing Panjim bus stand

PANJIM: The State government on Wednesday decided to drop the idea of constructing the Kadamba Bus Stand at Margao on Public Private Partnership (PPP) model. 
Thus, the State will now bear the cost of construction of bus stand on its own.
After chairing a meeting on the issue Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said the State government will go ahead with building of the bus stand by spending its own money.
“The government will recover the money through revenue generation via leasing of shops and other premises,” he informed. 
He said that in the first phase Rs 70 crore will be spent on the bus stand. 
The meeting was attended by GSIDC officials, Margao MLA Digambar Kamat, Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai, Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho and KTCL chairman Carlos Almeida.  
In the estimate, GSIDC proposed Rs 350 crore renewal plan for the construction of a new bus station hub in Margao, it has been a long awaited dream for the people of South Goa. The proposal of a 38,000 sq mts Margao bus stand will be soon presented to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant for a final decision, informed government sources. 
Along with this, the State also plans to spend around Rs 210 crore for the construction of a new bus stand in Mapusa and an upgradation plan for the existing bus stand at Panjim that will cost around Rs 100 crore.
