State earns Rs 143.74 cr on mineral ore e-auction

Almost 65 per cent of the total 2.22 million tonnes of mineral ore put up for auction sold

PANJIM: The Goa State earned revenue of over Rs 143 crore during the e-auction process held on January 19. 

The Directorate of Mines and Geology (DMG) sold 1.46 million tonnes of mineral ore generating revenue of Rs 143.74 crore. Another 0.76 million tonnes of mineral ore remained unsold. 

The e-auction held on January 19 was the 27th e-auction since 2014. 

The iron ore lying at various mines, plots and jetties including, Kotambi, Rivona, Vagus, Navelim, Tudou, Pale, Uguem, Shigao, Sonus, Mina Jetty, Navelim Jetty, Cuddegal got sold. 

The e-auction was conducted through the Metal Scrap Trading Corporation (MSTC).

The bids were won by Apranta Minerals Pvt Ltd, Avisha Shipping Corporation, Shiordkar and Company, Silver Stone Logistic, Vedanta Logistic, Vedanta Ltd, Sesa Resources Ltd, Damodar Mangalji and Company, among others. 

Around one million tonnes of ore is expected to be put up for final e-auction shortly. 

The department has so far sold around 15 million tonnes of ore generating revenue of Rs 1,500 crore.

The e-auction process which had begun in January 2014 following Supreme Court directions was halted in May 2017, after the 21st e-auction. The process was halted following poor response from the bidders due to the falling market prices. 

The process resumed in August 2019.
