PANJIM: Over 900 suggestions for corrections to the draft panchayat ward delimitation proposal are recieved by the State Election Commission (SEC) for necessary rectification.
The draft was made public on February 24 for scrutiny and suggestions in the office of Mamletdar and Talathi till March 4.
As per the tentative information shared by the SEC, a total of 913 public suggestions for corrections have been recieved by the electoral registrar officers (EROs). Of these, 650 are recieved in North Goa and 263 in South.
The maximum number of suggestions has come from Bardez taluka that is around 399 followed by 127 from Tiswadi.
The taluka wise suggestions received include Pernem (88), Bicholim (23) and Sattari (14) in North.
From South, Ponda (65), Salcete (98), Darbandora (8), Sanguem (9), Mormugao (40), Quepem (26) and Canacona (17).
The Electoral Registrar Officers (EROs) will prepare the final delimitation proposals after considering the suggestions or modifications or corrections of the public and submit the same to the Commission through the respective District Collectors on or before March 8.
Before notification, the SEC will also seek government comments.
The elections to 186 panchayat are due in June.
The delimitation of wards has been done using web-based system. The wards are constituted considering the geographical contiguity and natural boundaries and number of voters.
