PANJIM: Following cabinet approval, the State government on Thursday issued notification enhancing the expenditure limit of panchayats and Zilla Panchayats.
The government notified amendment to the Goa Panchayat Raj (Application of Panchayat and Zilla Panchayat Funds) (Conditions and Limitations) (Second Amendment) Rules, 2020.
The panchayats as well as ZPs can now spend maximum of Rs 2 lakh per annum on purchase of furniture, Rs 80,000 per annum on vehicles and Rs 1.50 lakh and Rs two lakh each on purchase of stationery annually.
The local bodies can spend a minimum of Rs 20,000 on celebration of each national festival, but the spending should not exceed Rs 75,000 a year. The same can get extend upto Rs one Lakh with prior government permission.
As per the amendment, the local bodies will now pay higher compensation to the victims of natural calamities. Panchayats will now pay Rs 10,000 per family and Rs 20,000 per family by the ZPs. With prior permission of the government, the maximum relief can extend upto Rs 50,000 per family.
The local bodies can provide grant upto Rs 10,000 to each educational institution, Rs 3,000 to self help groups, etc, among other expenditures.
The State has received additional Rs 75 crore from the Central government towards panchayats and ZPs.
