PANJIM: In a major proposal submitted to Union Minister for Agriculture Radha Mohan Singh, the State government has proposed a 75-day uniform fishing ban across all west coast littoral states from the next monsoon season in a bid to increase fish production. Last year, the fishing ban period in Goa had been extended from 30 to 61 days.
The State government during its recent meeting with the Union Minister in New Delhi had requested a ban on trawlers fitted with over 300 horse power motors from trawling the Sea bed.
State Animal husbandry Minister Laxmikant Parsekar along with secretary for animal husbandry and fisheries Amjad Tak had attended the two-day meeting of State ministers in Delhi chaired by Singh.
Speaking to media persons on Friday, Parsekar said that the State has proposed uniform fishing ban of 75 days across all the coastal states before the forthcoming fishing ban season.
