PANJIM: The State government has warned of action against the private hospitals who refer critical patients in their last stage to Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC), after treating them at their end for several days and fleecing them.

Under Secretary Health, Trupti Manerkar in a circular has asked Heads of Department in GMC to ensure that the exact detailed history of the patient is known before giving them admissions, once referred from any private hospital.

She said that instances have come to the notice of the government that many patients of private hospitals are sent out of the hospitals when the patient is on the last stage and the private hospital is not able to do anything.

“Such patients are referred to GMC after charging them and fleecing the patients,” Manerkar said.

Manerkar said that such cases need to be investigated an action has to be taken on all such private hospitals.

“It is very important that such cases should not be allowed to happen,” she said. The HODs are asked to follow the instructions failing which has warned of action.
