PANJIM: With the Sonsoddo garbage dump in focus, it has come to light that State has 11 more such sites, which need to be treated and cleared.
The Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) in its submission before Bombay High Court at Goa has informed that State has around 12 garbage dumps right from Canacona Municipal Council to Pernem Municipal Council.
As per the list, Sonsoddo garbage site, coming under the Margao Municipal Council jurisdiction, has the largest dump with a total volume of 2,31,239.76 cubic metres.
The Mapusa Municipal Council has the second largest garbage dump, which is around 1,27,684.8 cubic metres, followed by Headland Sada at Mormugao with total garbage of 83,661.41 cubic metres.
There are four large dumps within the jurisdiction of the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP)- 7,555.25 cubic metres at Campal, 7,454.94 cubic metres at Curca, 2,524 cubic metres at EDC, Patto, and 1018.38 cubic metres waste piled up near Divja Circle.
A 3,616.95 cubic metres garbage dump is also located in the Cuncolim municipal area while another 3,165 cubic metre dump is at Lakherem in Bicholim municipal area.
At Canacona in Dumane-Shristhal, a dump with 493.21 cubic metres of garbage is lying untreated, while Shiroda panchayat also has 300 cubic metres of waste.
Pernem Municipal Council has garbage dump of around 210 cubic metres.
