State notifies Mopa airport area as ‘prohibited zone’

PANJIM: In what could further irk environmental activists, the State government has notified the Mopa airport area as a prohibited zone.
A notification issued by Department of Home, Neetal P Amonkar, Under Secretary (Home-II) states, “Government of Goa hereby declares the “Mopa Airport Area” as defined in Clause (e) of Section 2 of the Goa (Mopa Airport Development Authority) Act, 2018 (Goa Act No 10 of 2018) to be a prohibited place for the purposes of the said Act, for a period of two years with effect from the date of publication of this Notification in Official Gazette.”
The development appears to have come as a shock as activists who are fighting the illegal cutting of trees were blocked from entering the area.
The notification means that as per law nobody can enter the Mopa airport area without seeking proper permissions from the authorities.
