The State Government has proposed projects worth around Rs 1255 crore under the Central government sponsored Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM) for conservation and to ensure sustainable development along the coast without environmental degradation.
The Union Ministry for Environment and Forest (MoEF) will be spending Rs 1192.61 cr while the State share would be Rs 62.76 cr over five years, once it is approved by the Centre. The government will be spending Rs 18.72 cr to prepare the Coastal Zone Management Plan (CZMP) and Rs 103.43 cr on shoreline management (anti-sea erosion measures for beaches of North and South Goa).
Projects worth Rs 974.95 cr are proposed under conservation and pollution management, which include sewerage scheme for Candolim-Calangute, conservation and management of marine turtles, establishing coastal sand dune park, conservation of marine bio-diversity.
Projects worth Rs 104.84 cr are planned for tourism, resource and livelihood management, while another Rs 27.38 cr is proposed for institutional arrangement and awareness.
