PANJIM: A postcard, supposedly from the ISIS, threatening Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar has rattled the State administration. The postcard arrived at the Central Registry of Goa Secretariat last Wednesday.
Goa police immediately swung into action with the Anti Terrorist Squad (ATS) verifying the threat’s, its authenticity, source and other details. Sources said photocopies of the original letter were circulated to the police brass, police stations and units for necessary action.
“…necessary precautions to thwart any attempt to disrupt peace and any untoward incident. All may be urgently informed and be directed to maintain strict vigil and be on alert all the time,” a noting by Special branch SP Priyanka Kashyap to all police stations said.
A senior official told Herald the letter arrived at the Secretariat’s Central Registry on January 13 at 11:30 am after which Under Secretary Prashant Shirodkar alerted the State police.
“Whether it is a prank or a serious matter, is being probed. But security in Goa is watertight. We have also informed the Centre and dispatched the threat letter for investigation at their end,” an ATS officer said.
The BJP has stated it awaits a report from the ATS as the verification process is underway. Party vice president Dr Pramod Sawant conceded that Parrikar should accept Z-plus security in his own State too.
