PANJIM: After nearly a month’s dry spell, there are hopes of a robust revival of the South-West monsoon as most parts of Goa, including the capital city, received heavy to moderate showers. The revival of the monsoon has brightened prospects of agriculture in the State.
Panjim recorded 45.2 mm of rainfall during the last 24 hours ending at 5.30 pm on July 3, taking the seasonal total to 478.3 mm. The rainfall deficit is almost 525.2 mm compared to the average seasonal rainfall.
IMD Goa Director K V Singh said that the revival of monsoon would be slow initially and improvement is likely after July 6 or 7. IMD has forecast occasional spells of rain and thundershowers in the intervening days.
Apart from Panjim, it was Dabolim that received good rainfall of 21mm followed by Margao with 20 mm.
The revival of monsoon, although slow, has brought joy to the agriculture department and farmers.
