Two Navelim flats burgled

Booty taken: Gold ornaments & currency, worth Rs 16.85 lakh

MARGAO: In a daring burglary, unknown miscreants looted gold ornaments and currency all amounting to Rs 16.85 lakh from two apartments in the De Melo building at Belem, Navelim.
Police said the incident occurred on July 2 between 1.30 am and 7.30 an when the occupants were fast asleep inside.
Diana D’Souza and her husband John along with their three children had come down to Goa from Mumbai to celebrate their Silver wedding anniversary on July 1. After the celebration at the BPS Club, Margao, the couple returned back to the rented flat at Belem at 1.30 am on July 2. Later they left for the Taj Hotel, Benaulim, after dropping their children at the flat and keeping the gold ornaments and cash in a bag in the room. When the children woke up in the morning at around 7.20 am they were shocked to find the balcony door of their room on the first floor flat wide open and the bag containing gold and cash empty. 
In the second incident reported in the same building, unknown accused entered the flat on the 2nd floor through the open gallery door and committed theft of gold ornaments and 500 dollars, cash Rs 30,000, totally amounting to Rs 1.80 lakh.
