State recognises govt employees, journos as frontline COVID workers

PANJIM: The State Cabinet on Wednesday recognised Central and State government employees, bank employees and accredited journalists as frontline COVID-19 workers.

Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant said that State and Central government employees, those working in autonomous/semi-government/PSUs as certified by their respective heads of departments or any officer authorised to certify by them; accredited journalists and other media personnel as certified by DIP or any officer authorised to certify by him/her and employees of banking institutions will be recognised as frontline COVID-19 workers.

Also employees/workers of homes for children/disabled/mentally challenged/senior citizens/destitutes/women/widows etc as certified by the Director of Women and Child Development or Director of Social Welfare or any officer authorised to certify by them; employees/workers engaged in provision of telecommunication and internet services as certified by the Director of IT or any officer authorised to certify by him/her will also be recognised as frontline workers.

People working in the above sectors are contributing to the fight against COVID-19 on a daily basis by being at the forefront and are thus, at risk of contracting the disease in furtherance of their duties, Sawant said.
