State records 265 COVID cases in 24 hours

Within a fortnight, the State saw a continuous increase in cases, deaths; The graph gradually increased and later saw a descending trend since September-end till mid-February; Now, the cases have once again seen an upward trajectory raising concerns

PANJIM: The COVID-19 infection continues to rise with the State recording 265 cases in 24 hours. From the first COVID-19 case registered on March 26, 2020 when three travellers tested positive for the virus, the State recorded seven cases before being declared country’s first COVID-19 free State in May 2020. 

Within a fortnight, the State saw a continuous increase in cases, deaths. The graph gradually increased and later saw a descending trend since September-end till mid-February. Now, the cases have once again seen an upward trajectory raising concerns. 

The State hit a double century on March 31, 2021 with single day spike of 200 cases, and broke its own record by registering 265 cases the following day — April 1, 2021. 

In fact, the State has been recording over 100 cases since last 10 days. 

On Tuesday, besides the highest single day spike, one mortality was also recorded. A total of 104 COVID-19 patients recovered, taking the tally to 55,757. A total of 831 persons have succumbed to the deadly virus so far. 

Total active cases stand at 1,716 while cumulative cases are recorded at 58,304. 

Margao Urban Health Centre records highest 185 active cases followed by Panjim UHC 176. The Porvorim Primary Health Centre stands third with 157 active cases and Ponda PHC fourth with 137 cases and Candolim PHC recording 125 cases. The least two active cases is at Valpoi Community Health Centre. 

Dr Rajendra Borkar, Chief Medical Officer (COVID-19) on Wednesday had cautioned about possible second wave in the State.
