State reports four new omicron cases

PANJIM: Amid sudden COVID-19 surge, Omicron scare has grappled Goa with four new patients, including a local, with no travel history, testing positive for the new variant. 

Health Minister Vishwajit Rane on Monday informed about four more omicron cases in Goa based on the genome sequencing sample report submitted by National Institute of Virology (NIV), Pune. 

Rane said one of the patients is from Goa with no travel history, indicating indigenous spread which needs to be further examined. 

The Health Minister said he will discuss with the Chief Minister the future course of action. 

The details of the patients, including their travel history have not been revealed by the Directorate of Health Services (DHS). 

Of the four patients three are women and had travelled from high risk countries. 

Goa had reported first omicron case on December 27, after 8-year old boy, who had returned from UK, tested positive. He has been discharged post recovery from the infection.
