State rules out handling of sub-grade, waste dumps from lease bound areas

PANJIM: Considering the transportation of the ore lying within the leasehold areas post-legal sanction, the State Government in its submission before the Bombay High Court at Goa has ruled out handling of sub-grade and waste dumps from the lease bound areas.
“The sub-grade and waste dumps within the leasehold area cannot be touched as such dump handling was banned by the Apex Court via an order dated April 21, 2014, which is still in force,” Government said in its affidavit before the High Court.
“The decision on the extracted ore on which royalty is not paid and lying within the leasehold area also needs to be taken. This will be assessed in terms of the legal scheme, financial and other policy implications by the Government of Goa,” the State said.
The government further said that the e-auctioned ore, which was extracted between 2007-2012, whose sale value is fully paid and is within the leasehold area, shall be allowed to be moved only after the necessary safeguards are in place.
“This e-auctioned ore was directed to be e-auctioned after inventorisation as per the order of the Supreme Court dated November 11, 2013. The ore was vested with the State government as per the Apex Court order,” Government said.
Nearly 11 million tonnes of ore has been e-auctioned by the government between 2014 and 2017.
