State sanctions Rs 20.66 lakh worth compensation

PANJIM: The State government on Wednesday sanctioned compensation to the tune of Rs 20.66 lakh through the Goa Disaster Management Funds in view of the losses suffered in the State due to the Cyclone Tauktae. 

Compensation of Rs 4.28 lakh has been sanctioned for 78 affected persons in Tiswadi, Rs 1.09 lakh for 23 affected people in Pernem, Rs 67,584 for 14 persons in Sattari, Rs 10.39 lakh for 44 people in Bicholim, Rs 88,000 for 16 persons in Canacona, Rs 30,000 for 5 people in Dharbandora, Rs 2.71 lakh for 50 persons in Salcete and Rs 32,000 for 11 people in Mormugao. 

It may be recalled that Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant had pegged the State losses due to Cyclone Tauktae at Rs 146 crore.

Goa government has also sanctioned Rs 4 lakh ex-gratia for families of each of the three cyclone victims.

The Central government has also announced Rs 2 lakh ex-gratia for next of kin of those who lost their lives due to the cyclone and Rs 50,000 for those injured.
