PANJIM: Aiming towards 100 per cent digitisation of government transactions by October 1, Directorate of Accounts has signed an agreement with State Bank of India to provide Point of Sale (PoS) machines to all government departments.
In a circular issued last week, Accounts Director PR Pereira said Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar had recently announced that within six months from April 1, State government transactions will be 100 percent digitised and no government payments will be accepted in cash from October 1, 2018, onwards.
“As a step towards implementation of the Digital India Programme in the State, the department on behalf of the government has signed an agreement with State bank of India to provide PoS machines to all the government departments,” he said.
As per the agreement, the department will be provided with one PoS machine per Drawing and Disbursing Officer (DDO). “In case of specific requirements of additional PoS machine, the department can place intent with State Bank of India and the same may be provided based on the operational requirements,” Pereira said.
Sources reveal that the agreement has been signed to provide around 600-odd PoS machines.
In January, the Chief Minister had announced the government’s intention of going cashless from October 1. Under the Digital India programme – a flagship programme of the Central Government – Goa government has already introduced the digital mode of payment in various departments like Transport, Power, PWD, Revenue, etc.
The government intends to make Goa the first State in the country to go completely cashless.
