State shells out Rs 3.35 cr to support rural poor

PANJIM: Rural Development Minister Michael Lobo on Friday announced that under the Goa State Rural Livelihoods Mission (GSRLM) an amount of Rs 3.35 crore has been provided to different Self Help Groups (SHGs) across the State as a revolving fund.

In addition, Lobo said an amount of Rs 1.67 crore disbursed to different village organisations across the State as Community Investment Fund to begin activities to help them earn their livelihood. 

The GSRLM has been able to reach out to over 38,590 households in the remotest geographical locations of the State as part of its aim to establish itself as an institution for the rural poor and reducing barriers for women. 

The GSRLM officials stated that several success stories of women overcoming inertia, living in poverty, have been given the much needed boost by the GSRLM in its endeavour to promote sustainable livelihood for the rural poor.
