State shortens night curfew timings

Curfew to be imposed between 9 pm and 5 am

PANJIM: As the Central government on Saturday adopted an exit step towards the 67-day long nationwide lockdown, the night curfew timings in Goa were shortened and it will be now imposed between 9 pm and 5 am from Monday, instead of the old timing of 7 pm to 7 am.

The decision is as per the order issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), which has extended lockdown till June 30 in the containment zones.

Addressing media persons on Sunday, Secretary for Information and Publicity Sanjay Kumar said the night curfew movement of individuals shall remain strictly prohibited between 9 pm and 5 am in the State. “The similar timing will be imposed along the borders while allowing vehicle and individual movements,” he said.

The State government is expecting further detailed guidelines from the Centre with regards to unlocking of all the economic activities in a phased manner, beginning with the opening of religious places, malls and restaurants, from June 8.

“We are waiting for further guidelines from MHA. We will assess the situation in this one week and accordingly issue necessary orders for re-opening of the activities, as permitted by MHA in Lockdown 5.0,” Secretary Health Nila Mohanan said.

She said that apart from night curfew, for now, the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) adopted by the State government is in sync with MHA and hence, it will continue till further orders. “The procedure adopted for testing COVID-19 will continue,” Secretary maintained.

Mohanan said from Monday, also no exit permits will be required from Goa government, for those wanting to leave the State. “The concerned person, will however, have to obtain the required permission from the authorities in that particular area, where he or she wants to travel,” she added.

Earlier, Kumar said that two special flights from Italy and Dubai, under Vande Bharat Mission, are expected to land at Dabolim International Airport on Monday. “But, we are yet to get details of the total number of passengers travelling,” he said adding that couple of more flights will be arriving with stranded Goans, in coming days.

On Sunday, three flights with 116 passengers landed at the airport.

Also, two trains, with over 2550 migrants left for Bihar. As on date, total 43 trains have left the State with 87,000 stranded migrants and visitors. From April till date, around 9402 persons have entered the State.

As per government information, total 786 FIRs have been registered against lockdown violators with 1432 arrests and 487 vehicles being seized.
