PONDA: The State will celebrate the birth anniversary of Chatrapthi Shivaji Maharaj on February 19 at Farmagudi Fort in association with Bandora panchayat.
This was announced by Director and Information Publicity Narayan Navati and Bandora Deputy Sarpanch Saloni Gaude.
Navati said that PWD Minister Sudin Dhavalikar would garland the statue of Shivaji at Farmagudi Fort premises at 8.45 am along with Art and Culture Minister Govind Gaude, Ponda MLA Ravi Naik, ZP Chitra Fadte, Deputy Sarpanch Saloni Gaude, and Nila Mohanan (IAS) Secretary Information and Publicity, PMC Chairperson Pradeep Naik, freedom fighters, Sachin Madge and locals. Historian Sachin Madge will deliver a keynote address on the life and times of Shivaji Maharaj. Various programmes by School students including fancy dress, quiz competition and intercollegiate quiz competitions on life of Shivaji will be held.
The highlights of the celebration will be staging of historical dramas on life of Shivaji in various parts of State from Feb 18.
The drama Veer Shivaji will be staged at Ravindra Bhavan, Curhorem on Feb 18 and same will be staged at Farmagudi on Feb 19, Ravindra Bhavan Margao on Feb 20, Vasco on February 21, at Don Mad Keri Sattari on Feb 22, Sanquelim Ravindra Bhavan on Feb 23, Shigao Collem at Dharbandora on Feb 24, Kundaim on Feb 25. In addition Shiv Gomantak drama written by Vishnu Wagh on the life of Shivaji will be staged by students of Saraswati High School on Feb 20 at Farmagudi.
