PANJIM: The State government has decided to formulate State Action Plan for Senior Citizens through the Special Cell of the Goa State Legal Services Authority.
In a press statement issued by the Directorate of Information and Publicity (DIP), it is said that the Special Cell for the assistance of the senior citizens is being functional under the guidance of Justice Mahesh Sonak, executive chairman of the Goa State Legal Services Authority.
The main focus area for functioning of the Special Cell is to provide access to justice, providing free legal aid to the needy senior citizens. The Special Cell would also provide assistance to the senior citizens, who tend to have fewer opportunities for social engagement than younger age groups and in the situation when they retire from jobs, children move away, friends and spouses pass away etc.
“The Special Cell on the basis of feedback from the senior citizens would act as a catalyst to formulate, plan and strategise State Action Plan for Senior Citizens for the welfare of the senior citizens while taking into consideration the specific needs of the senior citizens in the State,” it said.
The DIP said that the plan will be formed in terms of the Atal Vayo Abhudaya Yojana (AVYAV), the scheme implemented by the Department of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India.
The Special Cell aims at providing an interface for the Senior Citizens to communicate and complain regarding treatment, Care and Services guaranteed by law or for availing benefits under the notified schemes and programs of the government.
