PANJIM: The State as a special case has decided to grant age relaxation to 30 Assistant Data Entry Operators of the Electricity Department on humanitarian grounds after their services were terminated following the order of the High Court of Bombay at Goa.

The High Court of Bombay at Goa by a judgement dated December 2, 2020, had quashed the appointment of 32 Assistant Data Entry Operators and directed the Electricity Department to issue fresh appointment order as per the new merit list.

Accordingly, the services of 32 Assistant Data Entry Operators were terminated from January this year and fresh candidates were appointed. In the new merit list two candidates who services were terminated got freshly appointed.

The Electricity Department sources said that the government had appointed 55 Assistant Data Entry Operators in June 2016 and all of them worked for more than four years before the services of 32 workers were terminated as per the court order.

Many of the terminated workers later appealed to the government to grant them age relaxation on humanitarian ground so that they can apply for new jobs presently advertised by various government departments. The matter was referred to the cabinet which discussed it and decided to give them relaxation in age for maximum five years so that they can apply for new posts advertised by various government departments. But they will be considered as fresh candidates and they will not be entitled for continuity in government service and also for seniority.

The State government considered their plea as a special case since most of them had worked for more than four years and decided to grant them relaxation in age on humanitarian ground, said a senior official of the Electricity Department.
