PANJIM: Goa is all set to host the first ever international Environment and Sustainability Summit from February 2 to 4, during which the Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) will sign Memorandum of Understandings (MoUs) on waste disposals and green rating to industries.
The three-day event, to be attended by Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC) Bhupendra Yadav, will also see the launch of a nation-wide Wetland Conservation Campaign as part of World Wetland Day celebrations.
Also, managers of 75 Ramsar Recognition sites across 23 States will be attending a day-long conference in the coastal State.
Speaking to reporters on Monday, Environment Minister Nilesh Cabral said that nearly 300 delegates including international will be attending the event.
He said, “Around 100 speakers with expertise on environment and sustainability will be delivering lectures during the event.”
Cabral said that the Environment Department will also write to all the Colleges with science stream to ensure maximum student participation for the summit.
GSPCB Chairman Mahesh Patil said that the Board will be signing three MoUs on the occasion. The first will be with Indian Green Business Centre (IGBC) for issuing green certification to the industries and building in the State.
A MoU will be signed with CII GreenCo Rating for evaluating companies on the environmental friendliness of their activities and granting ratings accordingly.
Godrej, under CSR will be signing MoU wherein on pilot basis they have adopted three municipalities — Sanquelim, Bicholim and Valpoi and three village panchayats, for providing trading and resources on waste disposal. The company will fund the project for three years.
