PANJIM: The Goa government will initiate various measures including installation of automatic early warning and information decimation system in remote areas and catchment areas for early response for all the rivers to stop occurrences of flash floods in the State.
This was informed by Water Resources Minister Felipe Neri Rodrigues in the Legislative Assembly, while replying to the debate on demands for grants for water resources for the current financial year.
Referring to last week’ flash floods across the State, Neri said that the government will conduct a detailed study of the hydrological behaviour of the catchment, river hydraulics to isolate issues leading to occurrences and behaviour of floods in major rivers. The government will institute a technical advisory committee headed by water resources chief engineer and consisting of representative of Central water commission (CWC) and other experts, who had worked for Valvanti and Bicholim rivers in order to work out a viable solution for Mhadei, Khandepar and Chapora rivers.
