State to present letters of honour to families of martyrs today

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant that police Medals for distinguished and meritorious services will be presented during the function

PANJIM: The State government will felicitate and present letters of honour to families of over 70 Martyrs of Goa’s freedom struggle posthumously on Independence Day.

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said that 28 families of freedom fighters from other States including those who sacrificed their lives during Satyagraha in 1955 and 47 families of freedom fighters from the State, who laid their lives to liberate Goa will be honoured at the State-level function to be held at the Old Secretariat, Panjim.  

“I am proud that I am getting a chance to hoist tricolour on the same pole on which the Chief Minister of Goa hoisted the Indian flag back in 1961”, Sawant said after joining a silent march in remembrance of Horrors of Partition at Panjim on Sunday. Also, Police Medals for distinguished and meritorious services will be presented during the function, he said.
