PANJIM: In a major relief to 14 nurses, who were terminated from their services last month, the State Cabinet on Tuesday decided to reinstate them on contract basis for a period of one year.
On May 20, Under Secretary, Trupti Manerkar, conveyed the government decision to Director Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC) administration, to terminate forthwith the extension of contract of 14 nurses. Secretary claimed that the contract was allegedly done without following proper procedure.
The nurses had then called on Health Minister Vishwajit Rane, who had assured to look into their matter. Addressing media persons post cabinet meeting, Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant said that cabinet has resolved to renew the contract of 14 nurses for a period of one year. He said that the service was terminated due to some technical error in their earlier contract. The sudden termination of the services raised several eyebrows as the move came at a time when the State is facing a spike in COVID-19 cases.
The Cabinet also granted approval for recruitment of 64 frontline workers including staff nurses, laboratory assistant, micro biologists in the Directorate of Health Services for COVID-related emergency for a period of one year.
Cabinet also approved electrification of 90 houses, located in Sanguem, Quepem, Canacona and Sattari through State Electricity Department.
