PANJIM: The State government has proposed setting up of Institute of Forensic Sciences and International Arbitration Centre under the Central Ministry in Goa.
Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant said that under the Union Home Ministry’, government intends to set up Institute of Forensic Sciences while an Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed for International Arbitration Centre.
“Soon these innovative institutions will establish their campus in Goa,” he said.
The chief minister was speaking at the inaugural of two day State-Level seminar on Demystifying the NAAC Assessment and Accreditation Process organised by Vidya Prabodhini College of Commerce, Computer & Management in association with Directorate Higher Education, and collaboration with Center for Educational Development.
Sawant announced that the new National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 will be implemented at school education from the coming academic year 2022-23 onwards along with coding and robotics.
“The time has come when we need to create skilled manpower and not just some graduates or post graduates. It is the responsibility of the teachers, principals to introduce innovative concepts in learning,” Sawant said adding ‘in the current scenario, it is very important that we introduce innovations in the field of education’.
He lamented that a close analysis shows that more than 50 per cent of graduates today are unemployed while those with masters’ degree are applying for government jobs like LDC. “This is the level of education. Our students have no idea what they are looking for,” he said.
The chief minister appealed educational institutions to take benefit of Pradhan Mantri Kushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY), which is a flagship scheme of the Union Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, introduced with an objective to enable a large number of Indian youths to take up industry-relevant skill training that will help them in securing a better livelihood.
