In a bid to improve enrollment in government primary schools, the State Government has decided to start its own pre-primary schools from the next academic year.
Officials said the pre-primary schools will be set up in some of the 172 primary schools where ready infrastructure was available. These 172 schools are those with enrollment of less than 15 students.
Since June authorities have been trying to figure out the dwindling number of students in these 172 schools and how to increase the numbers in these. Recently, the department took a decision to amalgamate some of the Government primary schools into near ones on a pilot project basis in Tiswadi taluka.
Assistant District Education Inspectors have been asked to study their respective talukas to make a report informing the department on where pre-primary schools could be set up.
Based on the report of the ADEIs the Education Department will send proposals to the State Government.
Officials said the long-term vision of the department would be to have a government pre-primary attached to most of the 900 government primary schools.
