PANJIM: Goa Convention of Workers, a joint platform of all the major trade unions in the State, has extended its support to the two-day nationwide general strike call given by Central Trade Union on January 8 and 9, 2020 in protest of what they call the pro-corporate, anti-national and anti-people policies of the BJP-led NDA government.
Addressing media persons on Friday, union leader Adv Suhaas Naik alleged that efforts are being made to suppress the voices that are raised against government’s anti-people policies.
“The labour class is not an exception to it,” he said.
Naik said that the government has been continuing to arrogantly ignore the 12-point charter of demands on minimum wage, universal social security, workers’ status including pay and facilities for the workers, besides going for privatisation of public and government sector and mass hiring on contract.
He further raised concerns over scraping of 44 Central labour laws and replacing them with what he called as “four employer-friendly labour codes”.
