State well equipped to thwart any threat: Parsekar

PANJIM: Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar on Thursday said the State is well equipped to thwart any terrorist threat and there would be no compromise on security.

The Chief Minister was reacting to outgoing Director General of Police TN Mohan’s statement that the Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) of Goa Police was ill-equipped to take on any terror attack due to non-availability of funds.
Reacting to this, Parsekar asked, “Why did he not say the same when he was here for two years?”
The DGP’s statements assumed significance as intelligence reports suggest Goa is on top of terror outfit ISIS list.
Asked about the persistent threats posed to the State by militant outfits, Parsekar said, “First I must tell you that it is not a good thing that such information which comes to me and then goes down the line to DGP and the other officers is being leaked to the media. When information is leaked to the media everybody is alert and hinders the preparation of our forces.”
However, he added, “Since you have asked me this let me tell you we are ready to thwart any such attempt by any terrorist outfit and I do not want to get into any further details.”
Asked whether the force is well equipped, he said, “Whenever there is any requisition from the department we immediately clear it irrespective of whether funds are available or not. There will be no compromise on security.”
