State witnesses dense fog
HERALD REPORTER
PANJIM, MARCH 19
The people of the State woke up to witness a dense fog on Friday morning.
The visibility was almost less then 60 meters even at 7.45 am and the school and the office goers had a tough time negotiating the road. The Met department has forecast a further dip in temperature this weekend.
The Indian Meteorological department recorded 97 per cent of moisture presence in the atmosphere, which is attributed to dense fog in the city.
“The intensity of the fog increases if the moisture content in the atmosphere is high,” an official from the India Meteorological Observatory (IMO) said.
The minimum temperature for today was 24 degree Celsius while the maximum temperature was 34 degree Celsius.
“The fog is not the result of fall in temperature. Fog is a common phenomenon when there is a clear sky at night coupled with high moisture content in the atmosphere,” official added.
However he refused to predict whether the situation will remain same for coming days.
“There are chances of fall in night temperature but if the moisture goes up, which is yet the ground level at the moment, then there are chance of further dense fog in the city,” official explained.
Since last few days the state has been witnessing soaring mercury, which reached 37 degree Celsius last week.
