MARGAO: The Colva Police station had summoned the Colva Sarpanch Anthony Fernandes to interrogate him regarding the events that occurred on Saturday while an illegal land-filling was being carried out in Gandaulim ward.
The sarpanch along with more than 100 locals arrived at the police station on Tuesday morning. His statement was recorded by the police. The sarpanch informed that on Saturday, the police had not allowed him to enter the property where the illegal filling was being carried out. This caused agitation among the people but none of them had taken the law into their hands. And on that day evening, Colva police said that owners filed a complaint that the Sarpanch and other locals of Colva assaulted their labourers.
The police have sent a notice to the other people who were at the site on Saturday, including Judith Almeida.
Sources informed that the police are intending to book the locals with harsher sections of the Indian Penal Code such as rioting and damaging private property. The sarpanch said that this is a conspiracy to silence the voice of the people.
The sarpanch informed that he also met Panchayat Minister Mauvin Godinho and that the minister has asked the Block Development Officer to submit a report regarding the incident. He also informed that the Town and Country Planning department had revoked the technical clearance granted for the construction of a swimming pool, compound wall and other structures in the property.
