State’s COVID death toll crosses 600-mark

First death was reported on June 23; Five more deaths recorded on Friday

PANJIM: The State’s COVID-19 mortality count breached the 600-mark on Friday, with the death of five more patients. Till date, a total of 602 people have lost their lives due to coronavirus. 

The State had reported its first COVID death on June 23. 

Since January 29, the State has recorded 43,416 coronavirus cases, of which 40,409 have recovered so far at a rate of 93.07 per cent. 

On Friday, 241 patients were declared cured, while 215 new people tested with the infection. 

The State’s active caseload is 2,405. 

On Friday, a total of five patients were declared dead of which four were in Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC) Bambolim and one at Hospicio Margao. They include a 72-year-old male from Vasco; 77-year-old female from Aldona; 70-year-old male from Bicholim; 64-year-old male from Pernem; and a 36-year-old male from Quepem. 

Meanwhile, Goa Health Secretary Amit Satija also tested positive for COVID-19.
