If brain drain is not stopped in the State, Goa could soon be a place for senior citizens only and investment in the formation of human capital will not benefit the State, Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar told the State Legislative Assembly announcing that State’s ambitious project of setting up an IT Park at Chimbel and Electronic City at Tuem. The project will be completed in phases in the next five years.
Parsekar also informed the House that the Information Technology (IT) policy would be finalized within one month. He was replying to the question tabled by Independent MLA Naresh Sawal who sought to know the steps initiated by the government to promote Goa as an IT destination.
“Educated young Goans are moving out to places like Hyderabad and Bangalore in search of IT jobs. If such a trend continues, Goa will be a state for senior citizens and it will reduce the productivity of the state,” Parsekar said adding that in a bid to avert this situation, the government has proposed an IT policy.
He said that the Government has already identified three lakh sq mtrs of land at Chimbel for the IT Park and another 5 lakh sq mtrs of land at Tuem for electronic city, with a total employment generation capacity of 25,000. “In the next two to three years, 4000-5000 jobs would be created,” he said.
Spelling out the plan for Tuem electronic city, Parsekar said that the government proposes to set up an Incubation Center there with a plug and play infrastructure. Also some additional plots will be made available. A consultant to prepare a detail project report is been appointed, he said.
As per the information tabled, Lava International Limited has approached the government for setting up of its unit in the State.
