PANJIM: The three statues found by Drishti lifeguards at Miramar beach on Saturday evening were handed over to Church authorities on Wednesday evening. The three statues ~ Our Lady of Vailankanni, Our Lady of Lourdes and Sacred Heart of Jesus which ~ which were found at about 5.45 pm were initially taken to the lifeguard tower at Miramar beach and they were later transferred to the Drishti head office at Dona Paula, a Drishti official told Herald.
“A police constable at the Drishti tower had confirmed that there has been no complaint in the matter and also confirmed that no one had claimed ownership of the statues. We then got in touch with church authorities at the Archbishop’s House on Tuesday and church officials expressed their desire to take custody of the three statues,” the Drishti official added.
Incidentally, when Herald carried a photo of the three statues found at Miramar Beach, a group of residents from Caranzalem were keen to pay homage to the three statues and made enquiries about their whereabouts.
“When they were informed that the statues were at Dona Paula, they came to our head office on Wednesday morning and paid homage to the statues.”
“Later in the evening, the three statues were handed over to diocesan officials at the Bishop’s House at Altinho,” said the Drishti official.
Earlier speaking to Herald, an official at the Bishop’s House also confirmed that no one had come forward to claim ownership of the three statues.
“Since no one has reported the loss of these statues, we have been trying to trace the original location of these statues,” the church official said.
