MARGAO: The Additional Sessions Judge P V Savaikar has granted an interim stay on the order passed by the Additional Director of Panchayats which had granted permission to a private company based in Delhi for the construction of a large starred hotel in Arossim. The gram sabha held on June 21 had unanimously rejected the project and had decided to file a revision petition in the court against the panchayat director’s order.
The advocate appearing for the panchayat mentioned to the court that the construction permission was given without having sought the environmental clearance and further stressed that for a project of the size of construction which exceeds 20,000 sq mts, the report should have been sought before issuing permissions.
Villagers of Arossim have already been raising doubt over the shady conversion of land even after knowing that it is a low lying land and has five water bodies and several tenanted paddy fields.
The project of Competent Automobiles Pvt Ltd is a 226-roomed starred hotel. The hearing of the case has been kept in the month of August.
