PANJIM: The cost of a ride in a hot air balloon will rise for the peak tourist period between November 2015 and January 2016.
The adventure project operated by Tiger Balloons Safaris – Camping Retreats of India has confirmed the revision of tariff per passenger while maintaining the same fares for ‘exclusive flight for two’.
Speaking to Herald, the company’s Chief Engineer and Technical Head Soumyajit Misra revealed the introductory price of Rs 6,000 will increase by Rs 2,500 from November 1. The ride was launched a fortnight ago.
“From November 1 to December 10, the hot air flight charges per passenger will be Rs 9,500. It will further increase to Rs 12,000 from December 11, 2015 to January 2016. The rate will gradually drop to Rs 9,000 and further in February and March,” he said. The Delhi-based agency, contracted for the project by Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC) explained that other touristic locations like Jaipur – where the brand operates the hot air commercial ballooning – has comparatively higher tariff.
Despite the hike, Misra said they expect a good response from tourists as the International Film Festival of India, Christmas and New Year celebrations will bring in large number of holidaymakers.
“There could be some local tourists who may opt for a ride after the rate drops in February, but by and large there are many who don’t mind spending on such a fun tour. Several international tourists are certain to experience the one-hour ride,” he said, adding that hotels/resorts tariffs also shoot up in the peak season.
The flight operations are likely to close down in April 2016, due to the scorching summer heat and later due to the rains, and will resume the next tourist season.
“The wind conditions are not favourable during these months while also it is not feasible to operate in the rains,” Misra said.
